Captain Caius Auriga shifted in his seat in the passenger compartment of the Corellian light freighter. He couldn't help but compare this personnel transport to the Empire's Lambda-class shuttles. Not that he was complaining--far from it. Lambda-class shuttles didn't have holochess boards.
Glancing out the compartment's viewport, he noted the sudden shift from the realm of hyperspace to the normalcy of realspace. Though he could not yet see the Liberator, he knew she was nearby.
"A frigate command," he kept reminding himself. It seemed like just yesterday he was a lowly ensign hauling clonetroopers to the Outer Rim. Times had changed, and so had Auriga. It was again time to make another life change.
The freighter pulled alongside and then under the long neck of the Liberator, docking to the ports on its underside. As the airlock opened and the transfer ladder was extended, Auriga hefted his military duffel over his shoulder and started the climb.
"Company, ATTEN-HUT!"
Auriga emerged and passed his duffel to a waiting petty officer. Emerging in a moderate room--spacious for the neck section of the Nebulon-B--Auriga found a representative slice of the ship's company in formation to receive him.
To his left, in ranks, he noted the sharp Marine section. Beyond them stood the Engineering Department, followed by the Deck Department and Bridge Crew formed in the center of the room, then further right to the Medical Department, and lastly the Liberator Starfighter Wing. Standing at the head of the room was Commander Flynn Arkwright--Auriga recognized him from his personnel file--who awaited the formal approach of his new captain.
Marching to position in front of the commander, Auriga, too, assumed the position of attention and prepared to execute the ancient naval change of command.
First, Auriga began the exchange with, "Request permission to come aboard."
"Permission granted," Arkwright said, saluting. "Sir, I present the command."
Auriga returned the salute, stating, "Very well. I accept the command."
Arkwright replied, "I stand relieved." He then executed a right-in-marching and moved to the side of the formation.
Taking his datapad from his uniform pocket, Auriga recited the official orders from Fleet Command:
"Captain Caius Auriga, you are hereby requested and required to take command of Alliance Frigate Liberator, registered Kaut Drive Yards number Three-Zero-One, effective immediately. Signed, Admiral Ackbar, Mon Calamari Eight Zero Home One, Alliance Date Zero-Two Point Zero Three Point One Five."
And with those orders, Captain Caius Auriga assumed command of the Liberator a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away . . .
